NASHVILLE, TN -- As of April, Mike MacEwen, President & CTO of Beacon Interactive Systems has been appointed to the Board of SongwritingWith:Soldiers (SW:S), a nonprofit organization using collaborative songwriting as a vehicle of expression for veterans to share their stories. The Nashville-based organization hosts weekend retreats across the country where veterans and their families work with professional songwriters to write songs surrounding their experiences in and out of active duty. It is both a form of processing and communicating these complicated and powerful experiences, as well as a chance to raise awareness for the experiences of the military community, via recordings shared across the internet as well as at live performances.

 

As a member of the SW:S Board, as well as a co-founder of Beacon, whose vast majority of customers and partners are in the military community, MacEwen intends to promote the goal he shares with SW:S – to protect the warriors who protect us.

 

“When someone says to you,” MacEwen starts on the impact of the organization, “‘I was right on the edge. People around me couldn’t touch me, couldn’t talk to me – I was headed over that cliff. And then I found this.’ It’s pretty profound.”

As a member of the SW:S Board, MacEwen is among leaders with a similar crossover of interests, including veterans and retired military superiors, as well as other leaders in the music industry and business sector. This appointment provides another avenue through which Beacon leadership can continue to support soldiers, sailors, and airmen, whether on or off the battlefield.

 

MacEwen played trumpet and piano for much of his early life, eventually founding an independent record label with Beacon CEO, ML Mackey. With a background in both music and business, MacEwen is aptly poised to help guide SW:S to future growth. He looks forward to bringing an innovative take to the nonprofit business, breaching new revenue streams, and strengthening the structure of the organization. All so that SW:S can reach more of our country's heroes and support them through their return home.
