Small Business Advocacy
Beacon considers Small Business Advocacy to be an important part of our mission. Having benefited from the hard work and dedication of many individuals and organizations before us, we believe that we have an active role to play in bolstering the Federal innovation ecosystem.
Our commitment to this role is reinforced by the appointment of our CEO, ML Mackey, to the Small Business Administration's (SBA) Invention, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Federal Advisory Committee (IIEAC). Here she will advise the U.S. SBA on policy to foster a thriving and equitable environment for Small Business and Startup innovation.
Mackey is also a member of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine U.S. Army Science & Technology Roundtable. Contributing to a forum in which science and technology priorities are shared, and harmony is found across the needs and capabilities of government, industry research and development, and academia programs.
Beacon’s non-profit efforts support legislation and policies that ensure a fair and level playing field for the full Defense Industrial Base driving the efficient delivery of small business innovation into the U.S. economy. Beacon team members are recognized contributors to national publications, provide Congressional testimony, and participate in White House and Pentagon meetings on topics related to small business and entrepreneurship.
Our advocacy takes shape through thought leadership in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship. Our CEO ML Mackey is the Immediate Past Chair of NSBA, the National Small Business Association, and also serves on the Board of NDIA, the National Defense Industrial Association, where she is the Chair of the Small Business Division. Our President Mike MacEwen serves on the Board of NDIA's New England Chapter. SW:S invites veterans and their families to share their stories and write songs with professional songwriters, offering a space to process and communicate with loved ones, as well as raise civilian awareness for the challenges the military community faces.
